Twitch Streaming, Adult Entertainment, or Cooking Videos, knowing your vibe is imperative to being successful in the space. You can have beautiful looking visuals, a consistent and sensible posting schedule, and the greatest work ethic on the planet, but if you don’t know what your vibe is, then you will never achieve your full potential.
But what is “the vibe”? Well, it’s one of those intangible qualities that can be hard to define. It’s the reason why people come back for more. It’s the atmosphere, the personality, the bits you can’t quite script. It’s the unique essence of you. And without it, you risk becoming just another generic, faceless creator in a sea of others doing the same thing.
When you reach out to your audience, it’s not just about the content you create, but also the connection you establish. The vibe is what sets you apart and creates a strong bond between you and your viewers, readers, or listeners. It’s that feeling of authenticity and relatability that resonates with others.
Think about your favorite streamer, YouTuber, or blogger. What is it about them that keeps you coming back? Chances are, it’s their unique vibe. It could be their sense of humor, their engaging storytelling, their expertise, or even the way they interact with their audience. It’s this intangible quality that creates a magnetic pull and keeps people invested in what you have to offer.
And a vibe isn’t something you create, it’s something you find. If you’re trying to create a vibe, it will come of as inherently inauthentic (which can be intentional, and I’ll loop back around to that later). To get started, just sit down and have a think about what kind of feeling brings you into a place.
Do you like cafes that are cosy, welcoming and warm or do you prefer sleek, minimal and modern looks? Are you a fan of loud, energetic streams, or do you prefer a laid back, easygoing atmosphere? Even think about colours and aesthetics! My vibe can be described as “punk rock piratecore”, so it’s a lot of wood and grungey textures, pirate flags and the like, alongside a presentation style that’s very informal and loud without being aggressive or too in-your-face. And that’s just an exaggeration of aspects of my personality, my fashion choices and how I communicate.
Thinking about what you like is the best starting point, because it will attract people that are similar to you, and are in turn the most likely to like you and what you do. Your core audience should always be you, because if you’re not enjoying what you’re doing, what’s the point in doing it?
Discovering your vibe is an ongoing journey. It evolves as you grow and discover new aspects of yourself, in combination with experimenting with your content. If something works, or if it feels right, keep doing it, and if it doesn’t, don’t be afraid to throw it away.
Youtuber Brutalmoose initially started with an “angry gamer” vibe, but has over time has chilled out and fostered such a laid back, welcoming vibe that his audience will return to see him talk about anything, even reviewing frozen meals.
And it’s entirely possible for some things you create to have a different vibe to others. I host a show on my piratecore-vibed twitch channel called “Wrestling is Silly”, which is a fake wrestling show, where I play the role of host, booker and commentator. This is why I mentioned inauthenthic vibes earlier. The vibes of this show is “fake wrestling show”, which is a kayfabe (false reality) that we’re all buying into, to comedic effect. Which draws audiences in because they instantly feel like they’re in on the joke. It also allows them to get invested in these fake characters on the show, because they’ve bought into the fiction
Remember, you don’t need to appeal to everyone. Your vibe will naturally attract those who connect with you on a deeper level. It’s the magic ingredient that turns casual followers into community members. So, embrace your vibe, your personality, and your flaws, and create content that nobody else can. Because nobody else can be you. And nobody else can capture your vibe.
